Alicia J. Smith Speaks on Risks Associated with Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
Special Counsel Alicia J. Smith participated in a panel discussion sponsored by Ironshore Insurance in Chicago on March 22, 2017. Alicia’s panel addressed the insurance implications of “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics” as part of Ironshore’s Innovation Forum hosted by the insurer’s Midwest Region. The panel first considered insurance underwriting and legal challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, such as the liability considerations arising from accidents involving self-driving automobiles or unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drone aircraft. The panel also discussed the potential impact of AI upon the internal operations of insurance companies and similar financial institutions, such as whether a computer program could “learn” to evaluate and price insurance exposures.
Alicia was joined on the panel by an Ironshore underwriter, a representative of a national insurance brokerage and an attorney specializing on cyber-insurance claims. Please feel free to contact Alicia if you have any questions about this fascinating, leading-edge topic.
