BatesCarey Deepens Bench With Five New Associates
BatesCarey is pleased to announce the arrival of five new associates who will expand the bench of the firm’s insurance coverage practice.
John F. Healy, Jr., Kathryn C. Kawauchi, Elangie Lozada Patterson, Abigail E. Rocap and Allyson C. Spacht have all joined the firm’s Chicago office over the past few weeks and bring to 52 the total number of attorneys at the firm.

John F. Healy Jr. is an associate whose practice focuses on advising insurance carriers in a variety of complex disputes involving commercial general liability, motor carrier/business auto liability, and professional liability. Jack’s practice includes pre-litigation insurance coverage analysis and the litigation of complex insurance coverage disputes in state and federal courts across the country. Jack received his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2016, and his M.B.A. from Loyola University Chicago Quinlan School of Business in 2017.
Kathryn C. Kawauchi is an associate whose practice focuses on professional liability coverage, specializing in the areas of cyber liability and privacy issues, as well as title agent liability. Katy’s practice includes advising her clients in pre-litigation insurance coverage analysis and litigation of complex insurance coverage disputes. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2016.
Elangie Lozada Patterson is an associate who serves as coverage and litigation counsel for domestic and international insurers in various professional liability coverage matters, including D&O, E&O and other professional liability risks. She has served as counsel for complex insurance claims involving securities fraud class actions, derivative actions, and regulatory investigations and proceedings. She earned her J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2015.
Abigail E. Rocap is an associate whose practice focuses on advising and representing insurance carriers in a variety of complex disputes involving professional liability and commercial general liability. Abby regularly provides her insurer clients with comprehensive coverage analysis in coverage disputes involving primary and excess general liability, professional liability, and first-party property claims, including claims involving, derivative actions, employment-related litigation, personal injury suits, products liability and attorney liability. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2012.
Allyson C. Spacht is an associate who advises foreign and domestic insurance carriers on a variety of complex disputes involving commercial general liability. Allyson is also a contributor to BatesCarey’s Opioid Coverage Task Force, which is dedicated to monitoring and analyzing lawsuits filed by state and local governments nationwide against pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and retail pharmacies in order to assess insurance coverage issues and the risk exposure of BatesCarey’s clients and the insurance industry at large. She earned her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 2010.
