BatesCarey is proud to announce that Chicago Lawyer named Justin K. Seigler to its prestigious 40 Under Forty list for his exceptional work in insurance coverage litigation.

Justin’s extensive experience ranges from handling insurance disputes surrounding complex opioid litigation to defending a bad faith case in Florida federal court arising out of a murder and possible gambling debt gone wrong. Justin was also parachuted into some of the firm’s most difficult depositions in a Colorado federal court bad faith action involving a failed fishery. His experience has also included matters of first impression such as a coverage dispute over a wrongful conviction in Illinois, and a major construction action in the United States District Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  Justin also defended an insurer’s interests in a headline-making suit brought by the NFL to recover insurance for its liability for former players’ traumatic brain injuries. 

Justin is a member of BatesCarey’s Associate Committee, where he helps oversee hiring and professional development of the firm’s associates. He is also a member of the Justinian Society of Lawyers and is active in the Italian American legal community. 

A justice of the Appellate Court of Illinois’ 3^rd District stated that “Justin possesses the unique and rare ability to be a fierce advocate while maintaining collegiality and earning the respect of his peers,” adding that he “has developed a reputation for high-level critical thinking and creative advocacy.” 

This recognition is the most recent in a prestigious list of awards that Justin has received throughout his career. Every year since 2016, Super Lawyers has named Justin to its Illinois Rising Stars list in the area of Insurance Coverage Litigation, and The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch included Justin in the Insurance Law section in 2022 and 2023. 

Chicago Lawyer’s 40 Under Forty list, which annually receives more than 1,000 nominations, recognizes top young attorneys throughout the state of Illinois for their intelligence, passion and success in the field of law.
