BatesCarey Founding Partner Robert J. Bates, Jr. has been named a top five Global Elite Thought Leader in North America by the London-based publishing group Who’s Who Legal for the third year in a row. This coveted distinction is earned through the nominations of peers, clients and industry sources.   

In the 2019 guide, Bates was lauded by his peers as a “very experienced and extremely smart reinsurance lawyer … he has specialist knowledge of insurance coverage matters and represents insurance and reinsurance companies in disputes.”   

Bates, along with BatesCarey partner Adam H. Fleischer, were among the 44 Illinois lawyers listed in Who’s Who Legal Insurance & Reinsurance.   

Since 1996 Who’s Who Legal has identified the foremost legal practitioners in multiple areas of business law from more than 100 national jurisdictions. Nominees are selected based on comprehensive, independent research results from both general counsel and private practice lawyers worldwide. Since 2004, the firm has been ranked each year as the top firm in Illinois for Insurance Dispute Resolutions: Insurer, with Bates, Fleischer and partner Ommid C. Farashahi all receiving individual high ranks in this category. This year also marks Bates debut being ranked nationally by Chamber for Reinsurance, adding to his long-standing place as a top Illinois attorney in Insurance and Reinsurance, including his Band 1 ranking in Insurance.
