Adam H. Fleischer will share latest legal developments in the opioid epidemic and the impact of the recent City of New Haven ruling at the Gen Re Executive Forum this week in Marco Island, Fla. 

As keynote speaker and head of BatesCarey’s Opioid Coverage Task Force, Fleischer will discuss the  Connecticut ruling in which Purdue Pharma and 24 other drug companies were dismissed from civil opioid cases brought on by the city of New Haven. 

The key takeaway of the ruling was that neither the court nor insurance system is structured to fund and compensate the generic social harms such as the nation’s opioid crisis because the claims relate to indirect damages, which would ultimately turn on conjectural analysis of cause and effect.
